Another Lincolnshire Highlights news story…

Boasting a portcullis, stone turrets, listed gardens and views out across the sea, Lincombe Keep looks like an ancient fortress, strategically placed to observe the waters off Torquay.

But this extraordinary four bedroom home was not built hundreds of years ago.

In fact, this John Prichard Architects-designed house – on the market for £1.5 million – was completed in 1992.

The Keep sits on half an acre of Grade II listed grounds, designed by Fred Harrild, a former pupil of Sir Edwin Lutyens.

The home itself has an electric portcullis leading to a double hardwood front door leading to a split-level reception hallway with a ‘roof lantern’.

The sitting room boasts uninterrupted sea views and offers access to a private sun terrace.

The whole of the top floor is reserved for the master suite, with a large walk-in dressing room, feature observatory area and a big ensuite bathroom.

Elsewhere, there’s a formal dining room, three double guest bedrooms with ensuites and a study.

While the house is undoubtedly spectacular, it’s the grounds and gardens that are the real highlight.

Stone statues are dotted around, and stepping stones and a canal-style pond punctuate the space.

Topiary birds and boxed hedges are on display inside the limestone retaining walls, and wrought iron railings and even a dragon gargoyle sculpture invoke a fairytale feel.
