News: ‘I won’t let them win’ – Teenage model with one hand is proving her bullies wrong

Another Lincolnshire Highlights news story…

A teenage model who has been mercilessly bullied due her disability says she’s won’t let her tormentors have the last laugh.

Kiryn Reall, from Boston, was born with a cleft left hand that means the fingers on her left hand are not fully formed, making her a target for bullies at school.

The bullying got so bad that she was forced to move schools to get away from it.

However, the 14-year-old is getting the last laugh on her bullies, after being signed up by a modelling agency, something she says has changed her life.

Kiryn has been modelling for Zebedee Management, an agency which employs models with a wide-range of disabilities, including children with missing limbs.

“They asked my mum for pictures and about my disability,” Kiryn told Lincolnshire Live. “A few weeks later I got asked if I could go to a photo shoot.”

Kriyn says that the modelling, which she has been doing for just over a year, has changed her life.

“I’ve had a load of things come about with it,” she said. “It’s showed me the world’s a much bigger place than I thought. My friends saw me and they were really happy.”

As her disability rarely impacts on what she can physically do, Kiryn has never wanted to change anything about herself.

“It doesn’t affect me,” she said. “I’ve found a way to do things. I’ve never thought about getting a prosthetic, I’ve just got what I’ve got.”

Kiryn’s mum, Sabrina, says her daughter has struggled with being bullied by children throughout her childhood, culminating in a series of sickening incidents that forced her to move schools.

“She just suffers,” she said. “There was an online video circulating in April of some girls mocking her. The police got involved but nothing came of it.

“She tried to laugh it off, but I can see it gets to her.”

However, she’s delighted to see her daughter “blossoming” since she took up modelling.

“She’d been rejected by a couple of places before,” she said. “Just over a year ago she signed for Zebedee Management in Sheffield.

“People have noticed a change since then. She used to hide her hand, and wrap it around in long sleeved tops, but she doesn’t anymore.”
