Over £100,000 has been raised for Market Deeping Railway club since the incident that shocked members of the club.

Peter Davies, chairman of the model railway club, spoke to Lincolnshire Live a week after the incident and he said that it had been a ‘complete frenzy’ for him and the club.

He told Lincolnshire Live : “We have had unbelievable support from everyone, which has been truly amazing and humbling.

“Not only have we had the donations from JustGiving , but we’ve had people approach this privately.

“We’ve had responses from all over the world, such as China, South America, Australia and much more. We’ve had more than 800 emails sent to us expressing how horrified they were by this incident.

“The donation that was left by Rod Stewart left us all absolutely speechless. I have been in touch with his agent expressing how grateful we were for his generosity.

“We now have a huge responsibility to spend that money wisely. Its early days so far but we are looking to find some way of helping others.

“We would like to get more young people involved in model railway design – we are thinking of setting up a youth initiative to get them on board.”

The chairman added that the incident has affected similar clubs across the world, with many growing weary of a similar incident happening to them.

He added: “Not only have we been affected by this, but this has also rocked the entire model railway.

“One local group we spoke to is due to be hosting a similar event to ourselves soon and they are seriously contemplating hiring overnight security for it. It’s so sad that it’s gotten to this stage.”

“The feeling that I got from opening the doors to discover the destruction was something that will never leave me.”
